Kent Mackenzie: Film Author

The Exiles was directed and photographed by a group of young filmmakers — Mackenzie's college mates, fellow employees, and friends holding down a variety of day—to—day jobs in the motion picture industry. Much of the picture was shot on "short ends," the leftovers of 1,000—foot rolls (varying from 100 to 300 feet of stock) discarded by major film producers.

Mackenzie spent long hours making friends and earning the confidence of these Indians who finally agreed to re—enact a scenes from their lives for this picture. All of the actors, some of whom were recruited on the spur of the moment during the shooting, play themselves in the film.

City fire II

Last night on my way home some rowdy kids were setting off fireworks in the park so I sat down with four beers in my blood and watched. And I heard someone say

- Is that a child?
- That`s not a child! it`s just a girl!

guest photographer

Guest photographer; D.B. Here is I am, then I is here with the wife of said photographeur, who is really a designer of games, whom I handed my canon rebel to for half an hour. Then there is a girl being photographed by a girl...

A good dialogue occured between myself and their friends from Toronto and P.E.I; who are conservateurs and restorateurs for archives and galleries. And, as I am in the business of restoring, as we say, old shit, we hit it off on the matter.

What`s appropriate to re-create, what should be un-touched, what is good damage and what is innapropriate dammage...I like this thinking.

the wandering colloquialism

the pointy plant is known as a Wandering jew, a spiderwort, purple queen, purple heart, or tradescantia pallida.

The colloquialism "Wandering Jew" is of indeterminate provenance insofar as being applied to the plant in question.

just sayin.

Thursday nights, I get to walk home from my neighbours' who live across the park, practically diagonally, so that I halfta cross the full length of it on my way. And I like it like that.

Under Pressure

Since this is a piano post...on another fun piano note: Cuban piano tuner, What am I, A TALIBAN?

Here we are putting new bridges under pressure. These are called go-bars. go-go bars. I think it looks like the ribs of a creature. Belly of the little whale. I like it.

That's a painting in the little apartment home of a sweet chatty doe-eyed old lady working on getting her grade 8 RCM in piano. Good luck! She always tells me the best places to buy paintings, the best place to buy instruments, the best classical guitarists, the best reference books on music history....everything.

City fire

Lord of the Flies

When you reserve a spot for campfire at Dufferin Grove, expect this. Witnessing their little barefoot society was stressful. I felt like I was being swarmed by bold city pigeons. Stealing my food, co-opting our habitat. SHOO dirty children! I blame the parents. One kid was wearing just a t-shirt and underwear, no foolin.
